What is Giclée?
Giclée is a French term meaning “to spray”. A Giclée print is a high quality image using exceptional inks that are pigment-based instead of dye-based inks which are printed on any specialty printing paper, watercolor paper, or canvas and designated as archival. Giclée prints can be embellished by the artist with various mediums resulting in unique works. Artists have the option to create either limited edition prints or open edition prints. The number of limited editions is carefully chosen and no more can be created after they are all sold. With open editions, a number of prints that can be created and sold are unlimited, allowing artists to offer the print to as many collectors as requested.

Fine art Giclee print on Innova smooth paper, open edition 16” x 20” $65.00 unframed Signed and titled in pencil print and verso Year 2020. The staggering effects of the Coronavirus Covid-19 has changed the world forever and the devastating repercussions have been felt collectively by all of us. CODE BLUE seemed to occupy the senses daily and as the tragic and unforgettable images stream into our lives, the heroes, the first responders, are those who are in an undeniable war zone. Dedicated nurses, doctors, the medical frontline, fire & rescue, paramedics, police officers, were all struggling for PPE and supplies with little support, while working around the clock. The numbers of those who are sick and dying were only growing, more and more each day. Appropriate face shields, gloves, goggles and glasses, gowns, head covers, masks, respirators, etc, all were desperately needed and in great demand, but still, those who were fighting each day, facing unbelievable threats with insufficient testing, are out were selflessly saving lives while society is globally quieted and alone together. The new battle came as the life saving vaccines were released and individuals coupled with entire communities who choose not to vaccinate due to mistrust of science, political alliances or fear. "Vigil" was created as a gestural prayer, the only thing I could offer that day. The sun was shining, but I lit candles on paper for all of the heroes out in battle, who bravely and tirelessly face this unforgiving pandemic, day after day. From the moment of creating the initial painting, and then the limited edition embellished prints, Project Vigil transitioned from a personal meditation into a wish for unity, hope, fortitude, healing and peace. The hand embellished works evolved with the ever-changing global news, each one unique as more candle flames materialized, some became brighter, some had diminished. Sparks of red and orange, vibrant healing blues, floating lights and reflections appeared resulting in collective flow of energy and support as a response to the narrative of need and what is currently happening around the world. The idea of sharing this image as a small embellished limited edition has transformed into Project Vigil, with the intentions to shift from the call of CODE BLUE to CODE HOPE. The limited edition sold out as 100% of the proceeds were donated to the continuing effort for support, and now net proceeds from sales of the open edition signed print, are being donated to benefit Project C.U.R.E. Covid-19 Relief Efforts and the American Nurses Foundation Coronavirus Response Fund for Nurses.
“Love is Love” was painted with profound respect, awe, support, and great love for friends and family who have learned to "wave it proud" in their own way, some after many, many decades of silence and secrecy. The original rainbow Pride Flag, a powerful and instantly recognizable symbol of truth, diversity, and equality is shared and flown around the world in challenging times and in the best of times. There has been too much pain for too many and I wholeheartedly welcome this time for joy, a global embrace with the constant evolution of the current LGBTQ+ movement. This piece was created as a horizontal work, but due to its unique orientation it can also be hung vertically. The open inauguration of the gay rights protest movement and first marches were in June, 1970 in NYC, Los Angeles and Chicago and has now evolved into LGBTQ+ celebrations. The result is the movement’s constant flux worldwide. I have never been blind to diversity and the brightness in the unique colors of individuals, but there are so many who still can’t, or won’t, see what is right in front of them. Thankfully, our world is changing into a more fluid and welcoming community which is finally transitioning into acceptance. It does indeed take a village to raise awareness and, as a straight woman, I am proud to celebrate PRIDE in the month of June with the perseverance and fortitude of all who love. Love your children, love your parents, love your brothers and sisters. One world, one love. Love is Love.
Limited edition fine Giclee print on Innova smooth paper. Embellished with iridescent pastel, edition size 25 18” x 24” $95.00 unframed 20” x 26” $125.00 unframed Signed and numbered in pencil on front and verso. “Gathering” was inspired and painted in solidarity with respect to the peaceful protests of unity and collective voices heard around the world for the life of George Floyd, support in the continuing Black Lives Matter movement, for equality, and for the future. Gatherings of millions in large cities and small towns across the United States began in May, 2020 and still continue globally today. Under bright blue skies and kaleidoscopes of color, woven with black and white, we participate and watch as we embrace the right of freedom of speech and assembly. We protest peacefully for civil rights and justice for the lives lost through brutality and racism. How can we still be protesting for change, again and again, demanding decency and the protection of human and civil rights for all, no matter the color of one’s skin, gender, creed, or race? Enough. Our voices and persistence have become increasingly greater in a battle cry for awareness and transition for good. Here is to hope and optimism for a future of strong leadership, linked arms with our brothers and sisters, and finally moving forward while building a stronger bridge to reform and heal our severely injured and divided country. As a contribution to the effort, net proceeds from the print are donated to benefit the American Civil Liberties Union, ACLU and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, NAACP.

Earthday.org will benefit from a portion of the net proceeds of the sale of this print as it celebrates 51 years. The very first Earth Day occurred on April 22, 1970 after a movement of awareness took its foothold and voices were finally heard. Imagine, there was no Environmental Protection Agency, no Clean Air Act, no Clean Water Act. There were no legal or regulatory mechanisms to protect our environment. Thankfully, with global education, commitment and perseverance, the United States and the world is united as we now have Earth Month, to be “doing” for our precious big blue marble. From the EARTHDAY.ORG’s website, “The theme for Earth Day 2021 is Restore Our Earth™, which focuses on natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems. In this way, the theme rejects the notion that mitigation or adaptation are the only ways to address climate change. It is up to each and every one of us to Restore Our Earth not just because we care about the natural world, but because we live on it. We all need a healthy Earth to support our jobs, livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness. A healthy planet is not an option — it is a necessity.” She still has a beating heart and we have it in our hands.
